About the Event

Before there was Dracula, there was Carmilla. Based on the vampiric novella by Sheridan Le Fanu (1872), Laura J Harris' new play is a powerful, unapologetically female-driven odyssey into gothic horror. Le Fanu's tale predates Stoker's Dracula, with the action being pinned around a wonderfully gothic lesbian love story that boldly embraces and relishes in being exactly what it is. In Carmilla we may seek out and explore the intensity of attraction, the rapture of seduction and desire, and the exaltation of love and sacrifice, for… 'Love will have its sacrifices; no sacrifice without blood.'
